Etymology[]
Van Rhijn is a toponymic Dutch surname meaning "from (the) Rhine river". Common spelling variations are Van Rijn and the anglicized version Van Ryn. Unlike the German "von", "van" does not necessarily indicate a noble origin in Dutch.
