Susan Blane is a wealthy widow, who, unusually, lives in Newport year around.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Susan was married to Mr. Blane, a wealthy man much her senior around 1861. Mr. Blane passed away in Fall 1881. Susan hadn't expected Mr. Blane to live for as long as he did. Susan decided to stay in Newport, which would allow her more freedom.[1] Susan never found her late husband good company. He did not like to spend money, and kept their place in Newport relatively small. He went deaf in the end.[2]
Season 2[]
Susan hires Larry Russell to renovate her house in Newport. He easily makes her laugh, and they toast to a new beginning together. Susan and Larry take to one another rather quickly. He starts staying at her house while he is in Newport, and they end up having an affair.[3]
