Monica O'Brien (portrayed by Merritt Wever) is Bertha Russell's sister. She remains a spinster and, unlike her sister, hasn't risen to much wealth or position. Her nephew Larry says she is the only member of Bertha's family he has ever met.
She comes to visit the Russells for Gladys's wedding to the Duke of Buckingham. Bertha tricks her into wearing one of Bertha's older fancier dresses for Gladys' wedding rather than Monica's own dress which Bertha considered looking like "a cook on her day off."
