Maud Beaton , also known as Dolly Trent is a witty young socialite who entered New York Society in 1883 and got especially close to Oscar van Rhijn, who eventually intended to propose to her.

Early life[]
Maud has a complicated family history. She is said to be the daughter of the late John Beaton, with her mother being a Stuyvesant. It is rumored that she is actually the illegitimate daughter of Jay Gould, explaining her considerable wealth, and the fact that he takes an interest in her. Maud claimed to have moved to Paris to mourn for her late mother.

Aurora Fane introduces Oscar van Rhijn to Maud in Newport at Ward McAllister's casino party. She has only just returned from living in Paris, and she and Oscar joke about both liking the city, but disliking the Parisians. Aurora Fane explains the rumors about Maud to Oscar.[1]
Episode 3[]
Aurora is visiting Agnes and Marian. She invites Marian to see the new play by Oscar Wilde. She tells Marian Maud will be there and she wants to get to know her better because of Oscar. Aurora tells Agnes that Maud's grandmother was a Stuyvesant and she's very wealthy, so Agnes instantly approves of Maud for Oscar.
Maud is accompanying Oscar to the play and makes him laugh out loud in the auditorium. After the play, they meet the playwright Oscar Wilde.
