Joshua Winterton was a wealthy man, who was part of New York and Newport society. Previously a widower, he remarried to Enid Turner. Joshua died in 1884 without children, leaving his fortune to Enid.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Joshua had at least one deceased wife who predeceased him. Enid Turner wrote to him and praised his philantrophy. He soon married Enid (in 1882-1883), whom none in society had met before. Enid never told Joshua of her background as a lady's maid.

Joshua died of a non-disclosed reason in 1884.

Season 2[]

Bertha Russell tries to meet with Mr. Winterton while visiting Newport, as she hopes he will support the Metropolitan Opera House. However, she is shocked to see that his new wife is her own former lady's maid.[1]
