Edward is the son of Arabella Morgan, née Winthrop, a good acquaintance of Agnes van Rhijn.[1]

Aurora Fane suggests that Marian Brook meet Edward Morgan on a weekend in Newport. Marian's aunt, Agnes, is particularly keen for them to meet, given Edward's family connections.
While in Newport, Marian and Edward watch tennis together. Edward keeps on getting increasingly drunk and obnoxious. Marian quickly bores of him, and starts to avoid him.[1]
