Adelheid Weber (portrayed by Erin Wilhelmi) is a housemaid working for the Russell family, later promoted to lady's maid for Miss Gladys Russell. She briefly worked as a lady's maid for Bertha Russell before Miss Andre was hired.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Adelheid Weber was born in Berlin, Prussia.

She started working as a housemaid for the Russells after they moved into their opulent mansion on 61st Street in 1882. She learnt lady's maid skills by watching Enid Turner. Adelheid was promoted as Gladys Russell's lady's maid when her governess Miss Grant was fired, and she was preparing to be brought out in society. As Turner was fired, Adelheid started performing the tasks of a lady's maid for Bertha Russell. Bertha didn't find Adelheid's skills substantial enough for her own needs, so Miss Andre was hired in 1883 and Adelheid continued only as Gladys's maid.

Season 1[]

After Adelheid hears that Gladys Russell's governess, Miss Grant, is to be fired, Adelheid is hopeful that Mrs. Russell might want to hire a proper lady's maid for Gladys, clearly hoping to be promoted to such a position.[1]

Adelheid helps Gladys after she no longer has a governess, such as making sure that the coast is clear when she wants to go out without alerting her mother, although Mrs. Russell stops Gladys before she can leave. She expresses her desire to be a lady's maid in the servant's quarters, claiming that she has closely studied how Miss Turner's work. Turner is very dismissive of Adelheid, but Mrs. Bruce asks the housemaid if she really wants the position. After Mrs. Bruce asks Gladys if she would like Adelheid as her maid, she arranges Adelheid's promotion with Mrs. Russell, being able to convince the mistress that Gladys no longer needs a governess. Adelheid subsequently becomes one of the upper servants and starts dressing like a lady's maid, though Turner is still very rude to her. She is hopeful that Gladys will marry Archie Baldwin when he comes for dinner at the house, although Mr. Russell does all he can to make it clear to Archie that he will never marry Gladys.[2]
